Tunele SA Brasov

History
The premises of the foundation of Tunele Corp. are found in the establishment of Portile de Fier Construction Enterprise, along with the penetration, in the mid-1960s, on the infrastructure market (viaducts, tunnels, retaining walls, reinforcements), a direct consequence of the extension of the national road and railway system in the area Gura Vaii- Orsova.
In 1970, by hiring a core of specialists and groups of trained tunnel miners, the site Tunele Ciceu is established, which extends gradually, taking over the tunnel execution and repair from the railway network throughout the country roads.
In 1975, the headquarters of the site Tunele Ciceu moves in Brasov, becoming Site 18 Brasov tunnels, as section of the Railway Construction Bucharest.
Passing successively through several organizational forms, in 1984, Brasov Railway Tunnels (Brasov ATCF) is created by decree. 
In 1995 a government decision concerning the establishment of joint stock companies in the field of construction and assembly activities, industry and transportation services, Brasov Railway Tunnels becomes the Construction Company TUNELE Corp. Brasov, having an initial capital of 230,9 mil lei.
In 1995, MEBO privatization process ends and the company is totally private.

After 1990 the company became a name in the top construction companies in Romania, preserving the activity profile (building tunnels, underground works), perfecting continually the methods and technologies from the classical to the modern shield, with anchors and gunite. The company also approached other categories of large constructions, distinguishing itself in the construction and repair of bridges, viaducts, road crossings, works of art from all over the country
 
Representative works, performances:
As a construction contractor, TUNELE Corp. executed the construction of 40 tunnels (30 km), the most important being the railway tunnels Mestecanis, Banita, Grosi, Barnova, Cristesti Gibeau, Plostina and those on the Olt Valley. A reference work is Lacu Rosu road tunnel, executed using the new Austrian method and completed in 2005.
The company has mastered all the methods of execution, from classical mining methods to modern methods that use the mechanized shield and the new anchors and gunite Austrian method. An important area in SC TUNELE Corp. experience is the restoration, consolidation and waterproofing of existing tunnels. More than 60 tunnels repair works were carried out.
TUNELE Corp. worked at the extending process of the subway network in Bucharest: Basarab II station, Izvor station (escalator assembly), Gorj station (installation and running path), Dinicu Golescu pedestrian passageway.
The 1980s’ performances on the execution of Topolog viaduct Rm Valcea- Valcele railway (40 openings of 30 m,  50 metres tall piers, 1350 m long) were carried on through the participation at both road rehabilitation programs of DN1, DN13, DN 17, DN 67B, Road 76, and the achievement of representative works in the bridges field: Falcoi, Tg. Jiu, Curtea de Arges, Toplita.
A special category of works executed by our company is the underground urban sewage network. TUNELE Corp. participated at the execution of Braila sewage and Poiana Brasov sewage.
TUNELE Corp. extended its activity, becoming an important player on the hydraulic works market, drain galleries repair (Lotru Hydroelectric Enterprise: Cosana - Petrimanu, Ungurelu - Musetoiu, Bistricioara - Oltet).
